What this temple is known for
The main hall takes about five hundred people at a time for darshan. A carved Rajasthani-style entrance, a white and gold shikhar with kalash and flag, a marble sanctum, and wall paintings of Shyam Baba's life. There is a gaushala on the premises and a Shivling, which draws its own crowds through the month of Sawan. Bhandara is served weekly.
When it was built
Built in 2008, credited to Virendra Kumar Agrawal, then president of the temple, so that devotees who could not travel to Sikar would have a shrine closer to home.
Worth knowing before you go
Three different timetables circulate for this temple; the hours above are the ones Google verified by telephone. Lucknow has four other Khatu Shyam temples, in Jankipuram, Sapna Colony, Ganesh Ganj and near Badshahnagar station; this is the principal one.
Festivals here
This temple does not publish a calendar of its own. Shyam Baba is honoured on the same days everywhere: Phalgun Mela in spring, the janmotsav on Devuthani Ekadashi, and every Shukla Ekadashi. Crowds in Lucknow follow those dates.
The original temple
The shrine all of these follow is in Khatu in Sikar district, Rajasthan, where the head of Barbarika is said to have been found.
